Notes of the Day
Members of the staff of the Feilding freezing works who have joined up with the Special Force were farewelled by their co-workers at a gathering held in the supper room of the Drill Hall on Tuesday evening. Each man was the recipient of a presentation with which went the good wishes of all for a speedy return home again. Mr. George Hears, who has been associated with the firm of Alessrs. Thos. Rorthwick and Sons, Ltd., for the past 33 years and who recently retired, was met by the combined office staffs of the Feilding and Waitara works and made a presentation of a wallet of notes. On behalf of the gathering, Air. H. S. Tate spoke of the sterling services which Air. Hears had rendered the company over a long period of years. He had joined tho firm at Paki Paki and had remained there until the earthquake of 1931 destroyed the works, when he was transferred to Waingawa. Ho later served at Waitara and finally came to Feilding. Mr. Hears feelingly acknowledged the gift and expressions of goodwill towards Airs. Hears and himself.
