Beaconsfield

From Our Own Correspondent. A particularly despicable form of theft took place recently. Mrs F. Bush, a well known and respected resident of the valley, went to town the other day. On her return she was disgusted to find that many of her flowers had been stolen. J.ms was particularly disappointing as she has put in all her spare time in the garden and was saving the flowers for church decoration for the children’s service on Sunday and for Christmas Day. Next time the thief pays a visit to this garden he will find Mrs. Bush has prepared a warmer welcome for him than expected. Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Usmar are spending the Christmas vacation at Tangariro National Park. The district is unfortunately going to lose the services of their present schoolmaster, Mr. J. A. Snell, who will be teaching at the Warea School in the Taranaki Education district next year. Mr. and Mrs. Snell are both former residents of Palmerston North. Mr. F. Arrow and Mr. R. Quarrie were delegates to the annual tennis meeting held in Stanway last week in connection with the Guy Cup competitions. A number of tennis enthusiasts have been taking advantage of the sunny days to practise on the local courts. Mr. Ivan Old is journeying to Wellington on Saturday to attend Mr. I. Carmine as best man at the latter’s wedding. Mr. Carmine, who was a recent resident of the district, is on final leave from Trentham. Mr. and Mrs. E. Thomas have left on a camping trip to Napier. Master Mervyn Old joined a party of Technical College students from Wanganui at Feilding on Monday, who are visiting Wellington to attend the Centennial Exhibition. Master Old is due home on Friday arid will be accompanied by George Vosaitagi, a Fijian lad who is spending his holidays in the district.

Mr. R. Quarrie has left the district, hi! work having taken him to Rangiwahia.
