Timber—And the War
NEED OF REPLACEMENT A circular received by the Forest and Bird Protection Society from tho British Society, mentions that war conditions have caused it to close its London office, as a matter of economy. “Our society," tho letter states, “has a great contribution to make in providing constructive pla,ns for the future. Tho trees of our planting are now coming to the rescue of the nation. Many of you may be regretting that it is necessary to fell great quantities for war purposes, but surely we all come to perfection for some good purpose and the trees could not be doing better work." When this letter came recently before the Now Zealand Society’s executive members expressed regret that there should be any lessening of tho British body’s activities. As the war was talcing heavy toll of timber, it was more necessary than ever to go on vigorously with plans for replacements.
