Kimbolton

At the Kimbolton and Valley Road Presbyterian Sunday Schools' combined “end-of-year” party, games and competitions were enthusiastically entered into by children and grown-ups alike. Mr. Hodson distributed the prizes to the children, ; special prizes being awarded for attendance. A presentation was made to Mr. Calder, who has been teaching Sunday School in Kimbolton for over a period of 22 years. Mr. E. W. Beard, one of his earliest pupils, asked Mr. Calder to accept a cosy fireside chair from the pupils past and present. Mrs. Calder was presented with a posy. Mr. John Watt, superintendent of the Valley Road Sunday School Tor nearly ten years, who has now taken Mr. Calder’s place in Kimbolton, was presented with two books by his pupils as & token of the esteem in which he is held. Mrs. B. Lawson and Miss B. Lewis, assistant teachers in the two schools, were also presented with bouquets from the children. The teachers were then accorded musical honours. Two carols were sung by the children and a recitation was given by Owen Davies. Afternoon tea, served by the ladies, brought an enjoyable afternoon to a close. Personal and General. Last week's welcome rain has freshened the crops considerably, and farmers are now taking advantage of the fine weather to complete shearing operations. Hay and ensilage-making are now also in full swing in the district. Messrs. B. Edmundson, p. Keith, H. Pretious and R. Thevenard, of the Ngaruawahia training camp, are spending their leave with friends and relatives in the district. Mrs. Pawelka and Mrs. D. Bryce, of Wellington, are the guests of Mrs. W. Hansen. : Mr. M. E. Pearce, of Valley Road, is t spending the Christmas vacation with relatives in Petone.
