Boating Club Activities
At a meeting of the Manawatu Boating Club to consider the final arrangements for the opening day and sports day, it was decided to have the opening on Boxing Day, at 1 p.m., when a display of decorated boats will take place, and prizes for the best decorated canoes will be given. Also some boats will be available to give free rides for the children. In the evening it is hoped to have a community sing on the water interspersed with items. A really jolly time is looked forward to, and all boat owners are asked to joiu The sports which were intended to be held on New Year’s Day have been postponed until January 2, so as not to clash with the annual beach sports. However, a special two-day race from the Fitzherbert bridge to Foxton beach, for rowing craft is being promoted so as to finish at the beach at the latter part of the afternoon on New Year’s Day. The first day's course will be from Palmerston North to Shannon, and the second day the completion of the course with an additional race for canoes, etc. Over this part of the course power boats will accompany the con* testants. A special committee has been appointed to deal with all matter* appertaining to the race, consisting of Messrs. D. Dilks, F. Pullyn, F. Curtis, \V. Barling, H. W. Jewell, the president and secretary. Any interested are asked to communicate with the secret* ary, Box 236, Palmerston North. Prizes for the race Palmerston North to Manawatu Boating Club jetty at Foxton Beach—l, £2 2s, 2, £1 lg; Shannon to Manawatu Boating Club jetty, Foxton Beach—], £1; 2,15 s. A further meeting will be held to finalise arrangements for the sports day. Some novelty events will be on the programme, and a very enjoyable day is looked forward to.
