(From Our Own Correspondent) Tennis. Playing in dull, but fine weather, the Shannon men’s team, which visited Longburn last week-end, was defeated by the home team by 10 sets and 09 games to 4 sets and 48 games. The detailed results were as foilow, Longburn players being mentioned first:— Singled: H. Mabey lost to K. Batt 2—o, L. Hills beat S. Boyd 6—2. K. Rowland beat A. Robinson o—l, W. Rowland beat C. Booker o—2, 1. Payne beat It. Kohika o—3, W. Aldersley lost to R. Hallidone 2—6, W. Bowden beat W. Radford o—4, 1. Aldersley lost to B. Annesiey 2—6, F. Hearsey lost to A. Gillespie 3—6. Doubles. Mabey and Hills beat Batt and Boyd 6—3. R. Rowland and Payne beat Robinson and Booker 6—3, VV. Rowland and W. Aldersley beat Kohika and Hallidone 6—2, Hearsey and J. Aldersley beat Gillespie and Annesiey 6—5, Bowden and J. Aldersley beat Radford and Annesiey 6—l. Playing for Alf’s Buttons on Tuesday evening, Mrs Pope and Penl, defeated Mrs K. Batt and W. Radford, 40—46. Competition for the Mitchell Pins is very slack at present. The present holders, Mrs Pope and K. Zatt have not received a challenge for some days. It Is to be hoped that more interest will be taken in this competition from now on. The Assciation match, Shannon v. Foxton, which was to have been played at Foxton last Saturday, was postponed owing to rain, and will be played on Saturday next. Bowls. The match, president's team v. vicepresident’s team, played during the weekend, resulted in a win for the vice-presi-dent’s team by 36—33 in the aggregate. The detailed results were as follow. Miss Gray, C. Cronquest and A E. Hyde 11, last to Mrs Murrow, C. P. Gray and R. Collins, 22. Miss Murrow, H. Murrow and C. Hook 22, beat Mrs C. Hook, I. Hemmingson and R. Hook, 14. The second round in the Triangular Shield will be played at Levin on Saturday. February 22 Four rinks from Shannon will participate. Mr J. A Roach's nomination for the Manawatu Singles, to take place In Palmerston North on February 27, has been forwarded. At present there is a gorgeouk display of cannas at the local bowling green. Cricket. As threo of its members were not available, the Woodville team did not come to Shannon for the friendly match with the local cricketers. The postponed game will bo played In the Domain on February 28. Golf. Shannon golf enthusiasts are preparing for the coming season, and already a few players may be seen on the local links. The club is holding its annual general meeting in the Council Chambers on Wednesday next at 8 p.m. Personal Mr Ralpn Bennett, eldest son of Mr and Mrs S. Bennett, of Plimmer terrace, Shannon. while spending a holiday with his parents, was taken suddenly ill and was admitted to the Palmerston North Public Hospital on Tuesday. So fax no word has been received as to his progress.
