Auckland Trotting Meeting Concludes
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The second day and final day of the Auckland Trotting Club's February meeting was held at Epsom to-day in fine, mild weather. The track was good and fast. The totaiisator handled £23,30. compared with £16,584 10s last year. The figures for the meeting are £45,278 against £35,778 10s last year, an increase of £9„499 10s. Jones) .... 2 Also started: 0-6 Amathas, 3-3 Neou Oro bracketed with Sandusky, 4-5 Real Jewel, 7-7 William Direct. Long head; three and a-half lengths. Times, 2.20 2-5, 2.20 3-5, 2.22. Sandusky and Noon Oro broke at the start and Royal Jewel was leading out from Axminster, Amathas, and Horse Power. Amathas broke after four furlongs and Axminster and Horse Power drew away from the field. In a great race Horse Power won by a long head with Axminster threo and a-half lengths ahead of Hill Crest with another eight lengths to Sandusky who was fourth. ALEXANDRA PARK HANDICAP, of £300; 4.35 class; 2 miles. 1- LUCKY JACK (Berry) .... 1 0-6 Gold Dredge (Clifton) ...... 2 2- Frisco Lady (Edwards) 3 Also started: 3-3 King’s Guide, 5-4 Lady Fame, 7-7 Our McKinney, 4-5 Star Pronto, 8-8 Willie Derby. Half length; one length. Times, 4.30, 4.30 1-5, 4.31. Star Pronto took the lead from Friseo Lady after going half a mile and carried on running into the straight from Lucky Jack, Frisco Lady, Gold Dredge and Lady Fame. Lucky Jack finished resolutely to win by half a length Aoni Gold Dredge, who also stayed on well. Frisco Lady was a length further back third. Star Pronto who broke near the post, was fourth followed by King’s Guide and Lady Fame. BANGITOTO HANDICAP, of £150; 3.35 class; li miles. 2- KEN WORTHY (Cutts) .... 1 9- Compass (Cranston) ...... 2 5 0 Argolis (McMillan) 3 Also started: 4-5 Bismuth, 10-10 Kewpie’s Crest, 6-4 Lucky Love, 8-8 Muuga fangi, 155 Whakahiri, 1-2 Happi, 3-3 King Country, 77 Royal Jewel, 13-14 Lady Amanda, 14-112 Spessiva, 12-13 Luminate, 11-11 Impostor. Won by li lengths; one length Times, 3.20 3-5, 3.23 1-5, 3.23 3-5. FORBES HANDICAP, of £160; 4.52 class; 2 miles. 3- AUPO PATCH (Lee) 1 1- Swordsman (Smith) 2 G-4 Mute (Robertson) 3 Also started: 4-3 Great Sonoma, 2-2 Debutante, 5-6 Gala Day, 8-8 Mountain Sun, 7-7 Meadow King. Won by two lengths; neck. Times, 1.41 2-5, 4.42 3 5, 4.43 4 5. A prolonged inquiry was held into Swordsman's galloping but it was decided no action be taken. RICHMOND HANDICAP, of £145; 3.39 class; li miles. 2- OUR PEGGY (Berry) .... 1 1-2 Mountain Flight (Smith) .. 2 3- Bedford (Herring, Jur.) .... 3 Also started: 5-4 Claudelands, 4-5 Hot Point, 6-0 Superfine, 7-7 True Trust. Won by li lengths; 2i lengths Times, 3.22 3-5, 3.22, 3.25 3-5. Ranfurly Lass was withdrawn with the permission of the stewards owing to lameness after the Preliminary Handicap, and the money invested refunded. FAREWELL HANDICAP, of £300; 2.48 class; 1J miles. 1-1 FRISCO LADY (Edwards) .. 1 5-5 Star Pronto (Dyer) 2 3-3 Gold Dredge (Clifton) .... 3 Also started: 4-4 Ringtrue, 2-2 King’s Guide coupled with Nervie’s Last, 6-G Our McKinney. Won by J length; Times, 2.4 7 2-5, 2.46 4-5, 2.47. Frisco Lady, who was joined by Star Pronto after going three furlongs, w’as never headed, winuing comfortably iu the last little bit from Star Pronto by three-quarters of a length. Gold Dredge, always well placed, was third another half-length away. King’s Guide was a good fourth.
