Paragraphs About People and Events Rev. J. C. Abbott, formerly vicar of St. Peter's, Terrace End, and now of St. Margaret's, Taihape, has again found it necessary to enter a private hospital in Taihape. €> « Mr. A. C. B. Smithson, 8.E., of the Public Works Department staff in Westland, has been appointed assistant instructor in engineering at the Palmerston North Technical School. <s> <s» <s> <3> During the past week 6G placements, permanent, casual, and temporary, were made by the placement officer in Palmerston North, bringing the total to 1170. The Dominion total for the week was 1027, and the grand total of placements made is now 2(5,172. Passenger tickets issued at the Palmerston North railway station during the week ending February 33 totalled 3425, as against 2030 for the same period of 1930. The revenue showed an increase of £BS over £BOO for the corresponding week in the pr-eceding year. <B> <S> ❖ <S> Tho returns of traffic at the Palmerston North railway station for tho week ending February 13 show that 1600 sheep, as compared with 535 for the same period of last year, were dealt with. Other goods to the weight of 990 tons, as compared with 823 tons for the same period of 1936, were handled. <s> <S> <& «> Owing to ill-health Mr. W. J. McCulloch, Fields Superintendent - of the Department of Agriculture at Palmerston North, has been compelled to re linquish his positiou and has retired on superannuation. Mr. C. J. Hamblyn, formerly of Auckland, who has been acting as superintendent for some time, has been appointed to the position. He will control the area extending across the North Island from Taranaki to the East Cape.
