Show Competition Results Released
The following are the results of the guessing competitions at the recent Pahiatua Show:— Fat beast (correct weight 8221b5. lOoz.) Ist L. Lloyd, Mangamaire, So9£ lbs; 2nd. Adams, Mangatainoka, 803 J lbs; 3rd G. Hunter, Ruawhata, 8001bs. There was an extraordinary happening iu connection with this contest, only one competitor being in excess of the actual weight, while only three estimated the weight as being over 8001bs. In the second competition (two sheep) the correct weight was 1221b5. Mary Smith, Hamua, was the winner of this with an estimation of the actual weight, 1221b5. C. H. Brown, Ruawhata (121ilbs.), Miss L. Dick, Pahiatua (121£lbs.) and A. W. Brown, Hamua (121flbs.) tieing for second and third prizes. The scrutineers were Messrs G. H. Hodd, the secretary (Mr J. A. Walsh) and Miss Eileen Burt.
New Home for Older People. A comprehensive scheme for the establishment of an Old People’s Home at Marewa, Napier’s new suburb, to accommodate all the Park Island Joint Committee’s inmates in Hawke’s Bay has been placed before the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board by Mr. N. Blennerhassett, the manager of one of the Old People’s Homes iu Napier. Granting his scheme has the approval of the board, he undertakes to build an institution by April next with every convenience for the sick and aged, even to a billiard table. Mr. Blennerhassett’s offer is to be placed before the special committee appointed to consider the renewal of the agreement between the Hawke’s Bay, Waipawa and Dannevirke Boards regarding the control of the Old People’s Homes.
