MALNUTRITION.

(To tho Editor.) Sir, —I read some time ago that the League of Nations Nutritional Commission was preparing a report aud waited with interest to see it published. V f ct though we read daily of wars and rumours of wars, no mention is made of the findings of twelve eminent scientists who represent eight countries, including England and America. The latter country is not a member of the League, but considered the subject of nutrition to be so important that they agreed to co-operate on this occasion. The Commission stresses the fact that contemporary nutrition in all civilised countries is poor; not due to lack of food, but to the shortage in that food of the protective elements ao necessary to health. These are found in milk eggs, fruit and whole grains. It recommends a quart of milk a day for every child, and gives special warning against the use of relined flour, and the over-use of sugar and common fats. Much printer's ink is used to describe various unpleasant methods of destroying human lives, but little is used for the purpose of giving information on a more vital subject—that of living as long aud us healthily as possible. It is a pity that one has to read a foreign publication to obtain details -of a report of such importance to the community. —I am, etc., KEN RICK DEAN. Palmerston North, Feb. 10, 1937.
