Dr. Hugh Douglas and Dr. William ISowlands have been appointed members of tho Medical Council. The appointment of Messrs G. H Bullard, M. C. Smith, A. H. Boglo and C. K. Grierson as members of the Survey Board are gazetted. Mr. W. H. Hartnell, of the Wanganui Education Board staff, has beer notified by the State Advances Corporation that he is a successful applicant for the position of property inspectoi at Palmerston Worth, and takes up his new appointment on March 1. One of the oldest pioneers in the Kaipara district, Mr. Joseph Simcock, of Helensville, died on Tuesday morning at the ago of IOU. His last birthday fell on December J, when members of his family assembled to present their congratulations. Massey Agricultural College council yesterday confirmed tfic appointment of Mr. H. 13. Low, M.A., as lecturer in agricultural economics, a post recently held by Mr. D. O. Williams, M.A. Mr, Low was dux of the Timaru Boys' High ►School in 1927 aud entered Canterbury University College in 1928 us a holder of a university national scholarship. At Canterbury he won the John ConnaJ ►Scholarship in 1929, awarded for second year work in art subjects and in his third year (1930) he was awarded the senior scholarship m economics, awarded the student securing fiigheot marks lor third year work in the four New Zealand colleges. He completed a brilliant career by obtaining an M.A. degree with first class honours in economics. In 1933 lie acted as assistant lecturer in economics at Canterbury College. For the past three years Mr. Low has been on the stall' of Nanking University, China, engaged partly in research work in agricultural economics under Dr. J. Lossing Buck. Mr. Low will be returning to New Zealand towards the end of February and .will take up duties at the college on March 1.
