Feilding Borough Council
MONTHLY MEETING The Feilding Borough Council mot last evening, the Mayor, Mr. T. Collins, presiding. There were also present Crs. G. Darragh, E. Fair, I*. G. Guy, A. J. Iveliow, A. C. McCorkindalo and V. E. Smith. Leave of absence was granted Cr. G. J. Fitzpatrick who is visiting Australia. A letter was received from the Transport department regarding the new traffic regulations which had superseded the local traffic by-laws. Dealing with the Housing Survey regulations, the Mayor said that the council had applied for an extension of time in the matter of the preparation of the plans of the areas affected. Ramp Proposal. A letter was received from the Feilding Chamber of Commerce supporting the protest of the council against the proposal to erect a ramp over the railway level crossing on Kiinbolton road. It was decided to thank tho chamber for its proffered help. In connection with a letter from the Min ister of Public Works indicating that an early visit to Feilding would not be possible, it was decided to write to the Minister inviting him to visit the towu as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Eiwitea Bridge. Letters were received from the Kiwitea, Oroua and Pohangina County Councils agreeing to accept the existing allocation for tho cost of the new bridge over the Kiwitea stream oa Kinibolton road. The Mayor said that no further advice had been received as to when the new bridge would be built. Governor-General’s Visit. The military secretary to the Gover-nor-General, Lord Galway, wrote thanking the Mayor for tho reception accorded him ou tho occasion of hi 3 recent visit to Feilding. Tho mayor said that he had presented to his Excellency and to his aide do camp, Captain Stuart French, copies of the history of the settlement of the Manchester Block, bj Mr. T. Gibson. This history would give his Excellency an idea of tho development of Feilding and district. Rato Collections. It was announced that tho rate collections to February 11 totalled £15,230, oqual to 94 per cent, of the amount levied. The jiosition, stated the town clerk (Mr. C. H. Tate), was that the council was about £260 better off than at this date last year. Rent of Johnston Park. Tho council carried a resolution agreeing to reduce the rent of Johnston Park to the Feilding football executive from £25 per annum to £l6 per annum.
