PALMERSTON NORTH BRANCH HEARS COLONEL CLOSEY

Mrs. O. E. Niedercr presided at the first monthly meeting for the year of the Palmerston North branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held yesterday at Messrs Collinson and Cunuingharne’s. The president extended a welcome, particularly mentioning the visitors and new members.

At a committee meeting held prior to the general meeting Mrs. W. F. Field, provincial housekeeper secretary, reported that several of the division ; housekeepers had been engaged in the district. The forthcoming quarterly meeting of the provincial, to bo held in Taihape on Wednesday next, was discussed, the delegates to which will be Mesdames Green and Crouclier in addition to the president and Mrs. Field. Several communications were before the meeting and remits to be brought forward at the executive meeting were considered. The speaker for the afternoon was Colonel 8. J. Closey, who gave a thought-provoking address on “Compensated Prices,” pointing out that it was essentially the women's task to remedy the position of affairs at present existing in the Dominion. It was his desire to convey this message to all women’s organisations, he said, as this was undoubtedly the woman’s age. The speaker dealt with his sunject on the lines previously reported and at the conclusion of his address a motion was passed strongly recommending all branches of the W.D.F.U. to make arrangements to hear Colonel Closey on “Compensated Prices,” and give their support to the campaign.

The vote of thanks was conveyed by Miss McLagan and afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
