Surprise Party for 70th Birthday of Mrs. E. Nicol

Mrs E. Nicol, Gwavas, Tikokino, was the guest of honour at a surprise party organised by her sister, Mrs S. Douglas, Pcndle Hill, Ongaonga, on tho occasion of her 70th birthday. Mrs Nicol who worked for the late Mrs Carlyon at Gwavas as a girl of 11 years, and later married Mr John Nicol, an employee of Mr Carlyon’s, has remained at Gwavas ever since. She has now been employed thero for 59 years. Airs Nicol’s niece made and presented her with a beautiful cake, and Mr A. Hutt, her played the piano to accompany tho singing of "For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow." Among those present were:—Airs Hull and Mrs Douglas (sisters of Mrs Nicol), Mrs A. Hutt (daughter), Air Jim Fletcher (brother), Mr Hutt, Mr and Mrs S. Douglas, Mr and Mrs Horace Baker and family and Mrs Gillespie. „ The following are the sisters and brothers of Mrs Nicol who sent congratulations but were unable to be present: —Mrs R. Djuwler, Mrs E. Cook, Air G. Fletcher, Mr Joe Fletcher, Air W. Fletcher, and her son, Mr Tui Nicol, and son-in-law and grand children, Mr W. Adams, Gwen and John. Mrs Nicol is very active and attended the dance in Ongaonga last Afonday, ia honour of her eldest grandchild, Aliss Hazel Hutt, who celebrated her Slst birthday.
