Pahiatua Ewe Fair
GOOD EWES SELL WELL BUT MEDIUMS BACK IN PRICE
The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report a big yarding of ewes offered at the Pahiatua Fair on Tuesday, the 9th inst. Our entry, comprised of & yarding of approximately 6000 ewes, which were submitted to a full attendance of buyers, represented from the Waverly, Hawera, Marton, Feilding, Manawatu, Foxton and Levin districts, and buyers also were fully represented from the Southern Hawke’s Bay. Generally speaking some of the local annual drafts of ewes were not up to. last season’s standard, probably caused through our wet season but nevertheless by the attendance of buyers present our Pahiatua sheep evidently are doing good after leaving our district and going to other farming centres. Two Tooth Ewes.—Our top price for two tooth ewes was £2 4s 9d which we received for a choice line offered on a/c of Mr A. T. Sinclair, of Ballance, and this line of well grown good wooled sheep were not only a credit to the vendor but topped the market at the Pahiatua Fair. We offered also very choice lines.in this class of sheep on a/c of Mr A. Hoggard, of Pahiatua, Mr N. D. Wareham, of Hopelands, and Mr J. S. Bairstow, of Ruawhata. Four Year Ewes.—Our top price paid for this class of ewe was for a particularly choice line offered on a/c of Mr Simon McLeod, of Pahiatua, which realised 365. Five Year Ewes.—Our top price for syr ewes was 31s 6d which we received for a very useful line offered on a/c of Robert Vial. Six Year Ewes.—Messrs Bunny and Tredray, of Eketahuna, topped our market with their 6yr ewes at 26s lOd while Mr D. H. Rutherford, of Makuri, offered a line of 300 which were satisfactorily sold at 25s 2d. We quote: — On a/c A. T. Wareham, 2-th ewes 40s; a/c Robert Vial, syr ewes 31s 6d, 2-th ewes 36s 9d; a/c D. H. Rutherford, 6yr ewes 25s 2d, aged ewes 19s 4d; a/c Bunny and Tredray, 6yr ewes >26s lOd, syr ewes 28s, 2-ths 31s 3d; a/c Cupwell Est*, syr ewes 23s 6d, 2-th ewes 32s 6d; a/c R» J. Sinclair, 6yr ewes 23s 2d; a/c R. J, Gregory, 6yr ewes, 20s; a/c Bolton Est., aged ewes 17s 4d; a/c Gardner and Yeoman, ewes 22s fid; a/c W. E. Britland, aged ewes 17s 9d; a/c D. L. Bourke, aged ewes 18s 9d; a/c C. HBrown, syr ewes 21s, 6yr ewes 20s; a/c J. S. Bairstow, 2-th ewes 40s 4d. Other sales made were as follows: Ewes with low mouths, 15s to 16s 9d; fat ewes, 19s to 20s 7d; cull 2-th ewes, 25s Id to 28s 4d.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on the annual ewe fair held on Tuesday when a large yarding of ewes was submitted to a large and representative attendance of buyers from Wanganui, Manawatu, Levin and Taranaki and local districts- We yarded 9100 ewes of all classes. The top lines of ewes came forward in good order and for these there was on especialy good demand. As usual Jos. Breed’s Ngatua, 4yr ewes attracted quite a lot of attention and after keen competition sold at 37s 3d which was fop price for 4yr ewes. A. H. Ahrens, Kaitowa, annual draft of syr ewes were an outstanding pen and topped the market in our section at 32s 6d and Mr Mitchell’s annual draft realised 31s 6d. P. M. Priest’s annual draff realised £2 4s 3d. Another good line on account J. P. Tyle was secured by local buyers at £2 2s. We can report a very satisfactory sale with prices acceptable to vendors and with the exception of two pens made a total clearance. Nelson, Jnr., 50 at 30s 4d; a/c Bryce Wright Estate, 61 at 30s 8d; a/c H. H. Miller, 138 at 32s 4d; a/e L. T. Herbert, 40 at 335; a/c Mrs Waring, 21 at 37s 6d; a/c Balfour Estate, 26 at 335; a/c J.
