Foxton
Prom Our Own Correspondent Foxton Sea Scouts. The Foxton troop of Sea Scouts is now awaiting: the arrival from overseas of two special boats purchased by their committee, and which are expected to arrive in tlie Dominion about the second week in March. The purchase of the boats Is to enable the Rovers and Sea Scouts to be trained in boat management and to lit themselves for naval training at any future time that such occasion may arise. The boats have been purchased for cash from funds raised for the purpose, anil will bo landed free of all debt. At a group committee meeting held recently it was decided to make an appeal to the general public to further supplement the organisation’s funds. The responsibility of organising and financing the Scout movement locally has rested for the most part with a small group of willing workers, who have now decided to eniist the sympathetic support of the general public. This is to bo done by an appeal to anyone to become an “Associate Scouter” who will have the right to offer any suggestions to the group committee at any of their meetings. The aim of the movement is to develop good citizenship among boys and young men, by moulding their characters and training them in habit® of observation, obedience and self-reliance; to inculcate loyalty and thoughtfulness for others; to teach them services useful to the public and handicrafts useful to themselves; and to promote their physical, mental and spiritual development. .Donations will be thankfully received by the secretary, Mr MaoxlonaJd (’phone 50, Johnston Street), who will be pleased to give any information upon inquiry.
