John Hehry Lewis outpointed A 1 Ettore by a narrow margin to keep the light-heavyweight crown in a furious fifteen-round bout which thrilled 14,000 spectators. Both were swinging in blows from start to finish. Ettore was floored twice for counts of nine in the third round. Venturi won the decision over Jimmy McLeod in an eight-round bout. This is his thirteenth consecutive American victory.
