Fire completely destroyed a largo house at Mt. Biggs, occupied by Mr. Earl Beazer, yesterday afternoon.

Prior to the commencement of the business at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council, t the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) welcomed Cr. W. E. Pearce and congratulated him on his restoration to health. Cr. Pearce, in returning thanks, said he had to thank councillors for filling the vacancy during his absence.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council the district health inspector reported that fivo cases of infectious diseases were notified during the quarter ended December 31 last Three concerned cases of T.B. and two of scarlet fever. No cases of infantile paralysis nor any suspected cases wire reported. The sanitary condition of the county may bo regarded as satisfactorv.
