Mr. E. L. Cullen, M.P., has returned to Hastings. Constable A. E. Kearton, Napier, has resumed duty after annual leave. Mr. H. J. Down, assistant supervisor at tho Post Office Savings Bank at Christchurch, has received notice of his promotion to tho position of accountant at Napier. He will leave for tho north on Thursday. Mr. C. Clark, postmaster at Hastings, began his annual leave on Monday. During his absence he is being relieved by Mr. A. W. Swap, of the G.P.O. staff, Wellington. Miss Fox, Napier, is visiting Wairoa as the guest of her brother-in-law, Mr. F. Couper. The death occurred at Seatoun, Wellington, of Mr. Ernest Edmund Smith, aged 64 years. The late Mr. Smith was j well known and highly respected on tho west coast of the North Island as an athlete. Deceased leaves a widow and threo daughters, Mrs. F. C. Matthews (Martou), Mrs. E. Newland (Rukuhia, Hamilton), and Mrs. A. A. Da via (Opunalcc), and threo sons, Maurice Russell (Wellington), Guy Lindsay, and Warwick (Hastings).
