Maynard’s New Composition For “Lawless Riders”
“A LONELY BOWBOY SLEEPING” SUNG FOR ROMANTIC SEQUENCE (Kosy: Scrocning Saturday.) “A Lonely Cowboy Sleeping,” a new song composed by Ken Maynard, king of the cowboys, will be heard for thc first time in “Lawless Riders. ’ ’ Maynard, said to be ono of tho most versatile musicians in tlio film colony, composed the timo and wrote tho lyrics for “A Lonely Cowboy Sleeping” in answer to tho requests of his fans. “A Lonely Cowboy Sleeping,” in sftng by Maynard to his own guitar accompaniment in a romantic sequence with Geneva Mitchell, who plays opposite him. Another highlight of “Lawless Riders” presents Maynard singing “You’re as Welcome as the Flowers in May.” He accompanies himself on the violin, while Frank Yaconelli smd Wally Wales, seen as his cowboy pals, supply a pantomimic portrayal of the popular ballad. In addition to singing and playing the guitar and violin in “Lawless Riders,” Maynard also improvises oa his harmonica in a campfire sequence. The western star’s musical accomplishments includo an ability to play nearly every stringed instrument. He was the first cowboy screen hero to present musical interludes in his outdoor action dramas.
