Cars Must be Tested By March 31st
MANY FOUND UNFIT FOR ROAD. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Motorists aro required by the legislation passed during tho last session of Parliament to have their vehicles tested and passed as fit for the road betore March 31, the Minister of Trausport (Hon. R. Semple) said this evening. He is determined that every car be tested before being allowed to continue on the road. He had thought the selection of March 31 as the last day would give sufficient time for testing but he did not now intend to adhere rigidly to that date. The Transport Department was extremely busy with tests and in reasonable cases an extension of time would be allowed. 44 1 t is most significant,” Mr Soinple added, 4 4 that the majority of vehicles the Department has tested so tv” have been found unfit for the road and require adjustments.” The Minister said the law provided a maximum charge of five shillings for the testing of cars, it there was any suggestion of price-cut-ting steps would be taken to elimmat# it.
