Help for the Injured
NEED FOR AID SERVICES At its meeting last week members ol the Feildiug branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals made reference to the lack of aid services to the injured in accident cases and deplored the delay iu rendering assistance." The report supplied states as follows: ‘ Ihe society’s duty is to prevent undue suffering of the lower animals, but it would appear that the higher animal, man, needs some protection too. We refer to two accidents in town recently and deplore tho delay in rendering assistance. “An elderly man foil from tho top of the rail in the cattle pens in the Feilding aalo yards and broke his leg in two places. The doctor called improvised a splint from a nearby fencean onlooker offered his boots for a pillow and tho concrete yard provided the conch. This was the best that could be offered to tho injured man and nearly an hour elapsed before a stretcher was found. “A similar case of lack of facilities in case of accident was witnessed at the recent A. and P. show. A man was thrown from a horse and was injured severely. After some delay the man was placed in a car which ‘buckjumped' across the track much to the discomfort of the patient.”
