Sheepskins, Hide and Tallow
Messrs Dalgety and Co., report: 11 We held our fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries on Friday before a fair attendance of buyers.
“Sheepskins.—The demand was not so strong, prices showing an easing. As compared with previous quotations, values for full wools were fully id lower, and at times £d; while short wools ruled firm. Halfbreds sold up to 172 d, fine crossbreds to 17d, medium crossbreds to 15|d, coarse crossbreds to 15$d. We offered a nice line of pelts, and these fetched lid. There was only a small offering of salted, prices showing little change. “Hides.—There was a good demand for all descriptions and the market showed a better tone. Heavy, medium and light ox were par to id better, heavy cows par, lights and medium l-8d to 3-8 d easier. Kip values showed little change. Yearling and calf were in request at Ist sales’ values, with the exception of medium weight yearlings, I which were slightly easier. Calf 1/5 1 lbs. sold to 16 5-Bd, 6/8 lbs. to 15 5-Bd. | “Tallow.—ln sympathy with the overseas market, the export demand has quietened considerably and values declined Is to 2s per cwt. Mixed in “Tho following is the range of prices:— “Sheepskins.—Halfbred, to 17Jd; liue crossbred, 15Jd to 17d; medium crossbred, 14Jd to 35Jd; coarse crossbred, 14Jd to 15|d; half wools, J2Jd to 36d; quarter wools, BJd to 13£d; pelts, 9Jd to lid. Waited: Pelts, 2s lOd to 4s; quarter wools, 3s 3d to 5s 2d; half wools, 3s 6d to 5s Gd; lambs, to 4s 9d. “Hides.—Ox, 33/44 lbs., 6 3-8 d to 7 5-8 d; ox, 45/52 lbs., 7 3-8 d to 8 3-8 d; ox, 53/59 lbs., 7 l-8d to 9 3-8 d; ox, 60/69 lbs., 8 7-8 d to 9Jd; ox, 70 lbs. apd over, Did; cow, 33/39 lbs., 6 7-8 d to 7 7-Sd; cow, 40/48 lbs., 5Jd to 7 7-8 d; cow, 49 lbs. and over, 6 7-8 d to 8d; hip, 25/32 lbs., 6 3-Sd to Bid; kip, 17/24 lbs., 8d to 9 5-8 d; yearling, 11/16 lbs., 8d to 13 l-8d; calf, 9/10 lbs., 11J to 13d; calf, G/S lbs., 32 5-8 d to 15 5-8 d; calf, 3/5 lbs., 12id to 16 5-Bd.
