MR. F. J TASKER The death ha 3 occurred of Mr Frederick John Tasker, of Langston avenue, a resident of Palmerston North for a number of years. Mr Tasker camo to New Zealand in the sailing ship Winnington, landing at Port Chalmers in 1875, but after spending a few years in the South Island, he took up his residence at Wanganui. There he was an active member of tho Union and Wanganui Rowing Clubs, his prowess as an oarsman winning him several cups, medals and other trophies. He was also a life member of the Oddfellows' Lodge. After having successfully engaged in tho licensed trade at Wanganui, Mr Tasker settled in Palmerston North, being widely known for the high standard he set in his business until his retirement. Bowling was a pastime which claimed many of his leisure hours. He was a keen member of tho Palmerston North Club, and later, when he resided in Wellington for a period after giving up business, he was an active playing member, being secretary of tho Wellington Bowling Club for five years. During his association with tho Palmerston North Bowling Club, of which ho was president for one year and secretary for five years, Mr Tasker met with many successes on tho green. Ho was a member of the club’s rink which won the Now Zealand championship at Auckland in 1915, the others being Messrs N. H. Nash, E. 8. Dixon and J. A. Nash (skip). Twice married, tho lato Mr Tasker was predeceased by his second wife on July 2 of last year. By his first wife he leaves a grown-up family of five daughters and one son. There are 20 grandchildren and 27 greatgrandchildren.
