New Road to Link Whakatu and Tomoaua

Tho provision of a now road connecting Whakatu through Mr Anderson’s property to Ruahapia road and directly linking with tho road running along the railway line and coming out at tho Showgrounds, Tamoana, was discussed by the Hawke’s Bay County Council this morning. The matter was raised by a request from Mr G. Kelly suggesting a bridgo over the Karamu stream following the sewer pipe-line. Cr. W. Tucker said that such a road would be very desirable, but that the engineer’s estimate of £ISOO put it out of the question as a riding matter. Cr. C. Lassen said that if the proposed road were opened it would be invaluable in the moving of stock. Several ridings would benefit from the road, Which he considered would havo to come. He considered that it was a question in which an allocation could be made from the general account. The chairman, Mr F. B. Logan, said that it would possibly be opportune for the council to secure an option over the four acres of land required for the road. It was finally decided that Mr Kelly should bo asked to convene a conference of representatives of tho Hawke’s Bay A. arid P. Society, the Hawke’s Bay iMoat Co, and, the council.
