OVERSEERS REPORT TO COUNCIL Mr S. Macrae reported for the month just ended as follows, to the Pahiatua County Council Saturday:—“The Caterpillar tractor has been' engaged at Ballance, Mangaone and Kaitawa, where approximately 1000 cubic yards of metal has been dumped for maintenance work. I The trucks have been employed in conjunction with the crusher at Makuri and 600 cubic yards of shingle has boeu put through this machine. The grader has been utilised on all of the main highways and also on roads at Ballance, Kaitawa, Konini and Mangatainoka. Main Highways. Pahiatua-Pongaroa: Road has been graded throughout and a dangerous wash-out has been filled. Six hundred cubic yards of crushed metal has been spread on the Pongaroa Hill and in the Makuri George. Makuri-Mangatoro: A dangerous point has bceu widened and scrub has been cut. A truck is at present employed here, metalling where necessary The grader will be operating at an early date. Pahiatua-Mangaone: The grader has operated throughout this road. Approximately 790 cubic yards of metal has been dumped for maintenance purposes. Tutaekara: Surface has been patch cd and loose metal has been graded in. Pah Valley; General surface work has been attended to. County Roads. Railway-Ballance George: All loose metal has been graded in and a line of nine-inch pipes has been laid. Widening on Bernie’s Hill is proceeding. Mangahao - Valley; Water-tables have been cleaned and pot-holes have been filled. Foundation tests have been taken at Rouse’s creek with a view to bridging this ford. Palmerston Track; Slips have boon cut back and overhanging scrub has been cut. Makomako-Tutaekara; Scrub has been cut and loose metal has been graded in. A line of nine-inch pipes has been laid. Kopikopiko-Nae Nae: The deviation on the Nae frae section is nearing completion, the culvertfng has been completed and the traffic has now been diverted. Nikau-Qmata;. Water-tables have been cleaned and a dangerous corner has been improved. Scarborough-Konini; Loose metal has been graded in and surface patching has been attended to. Mangamaire - Pukewhai; Bridge decks have been repaired and surface has been patched. Grading has also been carried out. Rock-Makakahi; Surface has been repaired. The grader will operate here at an early date. Konini township: The filling over the Racecourse road culvert has been completed and all timbers have been removed. The suspension bridge on Bourke’s section has been repaired. Mahgaramarama: Road has been graded" afid general surface- work has been carried out. Mangatainoka township: Metal has been graded in and two bridge decks have been repaired. Ruawhata road: Water-tables have been cleaned and grading has been carried out. Tiraumea North: The deck of Hull’s bridge has been repaired and road surface has been repaired. Oete-Ngaturi: Slips have been cut back and grading has been attended to. Kohinui-Towai: Slips have been removed and overhanging scrub has been cut. The grader will operate throughout this road at a favourable opportunity. Woodville-Aohanga: Shoulders have been trimmed and slips have been cut back. I would suggest that Baylie’s bridge be renewed as soon as possible. Ngaturi township: On Dew’s section the southern abutment of Diok’s bridge has been erected and the excavation for the remaining abutment has been completed. Pori-Kaitawa Ridge: Pot-holes have been filled and overhanging scrub has been cut. The grader will be employed on this road at an early date. Tiraumea Valley: A slip has betn cut back and loose metal has been graded in. Two lines of 12-inch pipes have been laid.
