Women’s Institute
WOODVTLLE. The Women’s Institute resumed its monthly meetings after the holiday vacation on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. N. M. Burnett presiding over a very fair attendance. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mrs. G. W. Davidson (a late member) and Mrs. Bibby, of Waipawa, who have passed away since the last meeting. The trade stall was conducted by Mesdames Harding and Audrews, good business resulting. The annual meeting takes placo next month when a good attendance is hoped for, and nominations for next year’s committee are to be forwarded to Miss J. Beattie (acting-secretary) by February 10. Mrs. H. Jones was the winner of the beautiful rug made and donated by Mrs. H. Giles in aid of the hall furniture fund. In the junior competition for a set of waggon cloths, Miss J. W<hers was awarded first place, Miss M. Mountfort being second, while Mrs. llartridge won the senior prize for a pot of raspberry jam. A letter of congratulation ia to be forwarded from the Institute to Miss Joromc Spencer, of Bissington, Hawke’s Bay, founder of the Women’s Institute movement in New Zealand, on receiving the distinguished honour of 0.8. E. bestowed on her by His Majesty the King. At the conclusion of the business the jun'ur members took charge of the meeting, Miss J. Walthers 'very ably presiding. A programme of miscellaneous items was arranged, each performer receiving a well deserved encoro. Miss M. Bonny contributed piano solos, Miss N. Gilbert humorous recitations, Miss R. Walker Maori songs and poi dances, Jean Schroder sang “Alice Blue Gown,” Grace and Marjory McKuilay sang a duet ‘‘Lullaby” and Miss M. Knapp gave a demonstration. A hearty vote of thanks the performers and the judges, Mesdames J. Kihcards and Munro.
