Crowned Back to Front

INCIDENT IN KING EDWARD’S CORONATION United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, February 4. How Edward YII was crowned back to front was related by Lawrence Tanner in a speech at Westminster. He said the crown was handed over with difficulty by the Dean of Westminster to an equally aged and infirm Archbishop of York, and it was feared for a terrible moment that the Archbishop of York would drop it. The crown shook above the King’s head, however, and the Archbishop of York got it on, though it was back to front, but it did not matter because everyone was thankful that the crown was actually on.
