Feilding Municipal Band
annual meeting held. The annual meeting of members of the Feilding MunicipJal Band was bald on Thursday evening the Mayor Mr T. Collins, presiding. In moving the adoption of the annual report the Mayor commented on the want of public interest in the business of the band and went on to state that the finances of the institution were in a good condition. In this connection Mr Collins paid a tribute to the ladies' committee for their enthusiastic efforts on behalf of the band. Mr E. L. Lowe (conductor) reported that during the year 86 rehearsals had been held and a total of 96 parades. The attendance of bandsmen at practices had not been as good as he would have liked to have seen. In concluding his report, Mr Lowe tendered his resignation of the position of conductor owing to ill-health. The condustor’s report was adopted. The election of officers resulted:—! Patron, Hon. . G. Cobbe, M.P.; president, Mr T. Collins; vice-presidents, Messrs F. Conwell, AY. F. Jacobs, W. H. Perry, Dr. F. Cameron, Messrs A. C. McCorkindale, D. P. Buchanan; general secretary, Mr C. H. Tate; assistantsecretary, Mr E. A. Garlick; treasurer, Mr T. Collins; hon. auditor, Mr C. V. Aitken; general committee, Messrs W. n. Clayton, G. Wilkinson, H. Mr Garlick explained that the instruments belonging to the band were not good enough for playing in a contest, and that money would be required for new instruments. He suggested that the ladies' committee be called together and ways and means of raising funds be discussed with the object of raising the necessary money for new instruments. It was decided that the appointment of a conductor to succeed Mr Lowe be left until a later meeting.
The president, referring to the impending departure of Mr C. Simmons, who is leaving for England, said that his services would be greatly missed and that the band was sorry he was leaving Feilding. The speaker thanked Mr Simmons for his keen interest in the band and wished him bon voyage. Beplying, Mr Simmons said that he, too, was sorry to relinquish his association with the band. He had enjoyed his connection with it and would entinue to take an interest in its activities. Mr Simmons intimated that he may come back to New Zealand, and, if so, he would not forget Feilding. Referring to the departure of Mr O. Scotney, Mr Collins moved a motion that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that Mr Scotney's services be recorded and that a left** of appreciation be sent to him. The motion was carried.
It was stated that the band received a donation of £lO from the Feilding Jockey Club for its services at the recent race meeting, and that the band's expenses were £B. The funds had benefited to the extent of only £2.
