Mr. J. McLay, senior multiplex mechanic at the Wanganui telegraph office, has been transferred on promotion to the Napier telegraph office and leaves next week to take up his new duties. Mr. McLay has been stationed at Wanganui for a number of years During that time ho has acted as delegate from the Wanganui section of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, in addition to being a member of the New Zealand executive. He has displayed keen interest in the social affairs of tho local section. His successor will be Mr. W. T. Snadon, from the G.P.0., Wellington. Air. Hector Law has sold his farm at Argyll. Mr. W. C. Walker, Tikokino, has returned from a holiday visit to his daughter at Fcrnhill. Mr. H. Seblcy, who has farmed in the Tikokino district for a number of years, has left the district. He was an ardent supporter of the Tikokino Dog Trial Club, and for a long period held office as timekeeper. He also took an active interest in the Tikokino Sports Club. Air. B. Turner, Napier, is visiting Rotorua. Messrs Rig (Napier), N. Cowic (Port Ahuriri), Giorgi and H. Green (Hastings), and J. Ringland (Napier) are visiting Wairoa for the carnival. Air. B. Piraley, York road, Hastings, was elected a member of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society at an executive meeting yesterday. Rev. W. S. G. Cameron, formerly of Porangahau, and Mrs. Cameron andfamily have taken up residence at Bt. Andrew’s vicarage, Port Ahuriri. An induction gerviCo will bo conducted on Sunday Brocklchurst. Airs. J. 737 Sinclair-Thomson, Hampton House, Tiinaru, will bo a visitor to Napier next week for the wedding of her brother, Air. John Elworthv, and Aliss Hester Herrick. Airs. W. N. Bond, Miss Alary Bond, Dunrobin, Southland, Aliss Elworthv and Aliss Nancy Bond, Le Cren’s terrace, Timaru, will also be visitors to Napier for tho Elworthy—Herrick wedding. Aliss Lovell-Smith left Hastings yesterday morning for Qrisuorne. Aliss Aluriel South, Napier, is on a visit to her brother and sister at Nu- . haka. Air. and Airs. E. Crcrer, Hastings, are visiting Wairoa for tiie carnival as tho guests of Air. and Mrs. E. Allison. Mrs. Donald Cranko, accompanied by her children, Barbara and John, has left for Wellington, en route for England. Miss Alargaret Balharry, who has been spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs. Norman Balharry, New Plymouth, is now Maying with Airs. Ernest Couper, HavSock North. Aliss Jean Hall-Kenny has returned to Wellington after spending a holiday in Napier as tho guest of Miss Jean Oliver, Station street, Napier. Miss Jean Oliver has left on a holiday visit to Palmerston North and Wellington. Tho death of Airs. Alargaret AlcAulay, wife of Mr. R. 8. AlcAulay, and one of the piouecr settlers of Elsthorpe, occurred early yesterday morning at her residence, “Rosewood.” The late Airs. McAulay was born at Clive. Bhc was in her 73rd year. The sympathy of a host of friends will be extended to Air. AlcAulay and the remaining members of the family, two daughters, Mesdames I. Hunter, of Dannevirke, and 8. Alerrick, of Norsewood; and four sous, Messrs W. McAulay, of Elsthorpe, G. McAulay, of Kaiwaka, S. AlcAulay, of Norsewood, and H. McAulay, of Tara* dale. There are also 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
