The annual rush lor the payment of rates has now set in in earnest at the Hastings borough offices, tho final day lor payment before the imposition of the 10 per cent, penalty being less than two weeks off. The total amount struck far this year was £42,000, but all this will not bo collected, there invariably being at least 5 per cent, outstaudng at the end of the financial year. Just over half the rate struck by the Havelock North Town Board has been collected, the total amount to hand up io Wednesday evening being £1750 out ot the £3150 struck.
