Miss Betty Butler has returned from a holiday spent at Lake Ferry. I Mr and Mrs N. Terry and family were I recent guests of Mrs E. B. Terry. Cricket A return match between teams representing tho Mauriceville and Nireaha liairy factories was played during the recent week-end. A good crowd of spectators enjoyed the display given by the aspiring Don Bradmans. Mauriceville won an interesting- gamo by the small margin of five runs, J. H. Pauling scoring with *ls. G. Brown, a slow spin bowler, was in fine fettle for Nireaha and took six cheap wickets. Nireaha’s first effort realised 40 runs, G. Brown, 27 not out, being top scorer. Pryde* and Chum Bailey, who opened for Nireaha, displayed all their old form but did not appear to appreciate the variations of the pitch. C. Bailey appeared very good on off-side play, and is not unlike Hammond in stylo! Clements and Nelson shared the wickets in this innings. Mauriceville's second innings realised 40 runs, leaving Nireaha with 27 runs to get to retain the shield. Owing to accurate bowling by C. Nelson, Nireaha could only score 22 runs in their final innings, C. Christensen, last man in, being top scorer with 7 not out. The game, although not of first-grade class, was greatly enjoyed by the teams, the players displaying a real hit or miss style. At the conclusion of the games the teams were entertained at tea, when Mr Victor Geary, captain of the Nireaha eleven, in handing over the Matt Welch Shield to the visiting captain, complimented the winners on their performance, and expressed the wish that the return match to be played in the near future would be as enjoyable as the one just played.
