TWO MANY GO TO U S.A. THEIR IMMEDIATE PROSPECTS BOUTS IN THE MAKING Two Australian champion boxers, Jack Carroll (welterdeight) and Alt Blatch (lightweight) may leave Sydney for the United States at the end of April. Mr. C. Lucas is awaiting replies to cables regarding terms. He believes they will be satisfactory to all concerned. Mr. Lucas added that he would accompany the boxers, together with Bill O'Brien, manager of Carroll. Meantime, Carroll would fight American boxers at the Sports Ground. Jimmy Leto, regarded as one of the leading contenders for the world title, sailed from America on February 2, and will meet Carroll at the Sports Ground on Easter Monday. A mesage from Melbourne stated that there was now a possibility that Jack Carroll would fight Barney Ross in America for the w’orld welterweight title. Bill O’Brien, Carroll’s trainer, said that a definite offer must be made from America, and money lodged In Australia, before Carroll would leave. The next fights at the Sports Ground will be staged on February 9. Dick Humphries will meet Jack MacNamee, w r elterw r eight champion of Victoria. Mr. Lucas is asking three prominent Sydney men to act as a board for him during the coming contests. He will approach Mr. McKell, M.L.A., Sir Henry Braddon and Mr. W. Lawless to take the positions. All disputes will be referred to the board, who will arbitrate in all matters.
