Tho hottest lighting throughout the night resulted in beating off the attackers and leaving the Singapore defences sorely tested but iutact. The defenders are confident that the manoeuvres are a further proof of the impregnability of ihe Singapore fortress. Shortly after dawn the enemy made a final attempt to damage Singapore by air attacks but the ond came with their withdrawing under smoko screens pep pered by heavy guns. Aircraft attacked the aircraft carrier I-lermes, before the Hermes was able to launch its bombers. Blueland bombers attacked the Seletan aerodrome, while Singapore aircraft, after an attack on the liermes, were returning for a landing*
