Canvasser Sent to Gaol
BOGUS BOOK MARKS. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Last Night. David Scrogic, aged 44, a canvasser with a list of previous convictions for false pretences, was sentenced to 12 months for obtaining £SO through orders from business people for advertisements for a book mark purported to be used in the municipal library. Accused represented that he was the authorised agent of the City Council. Accused canvassed over a period of two months spending the money in drink and personal expenses together with a remittance of 24s weekly.
NEW ZEALAND’S TOUR OF ENGLAND. PAGE CAPTAIN, LOWRY MANAGER. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb 2. The New Zealand Cricket Council announced to-day that M. L. Page had been appointed captain of the New Zealand team for England and Mr T. C. Lowry manager. The team will consist of fourteen men and will be finally selected after the Canterbury-Otago match.
On accouut of the paralysis outbreak tho Canterbury-Otago match was postponed and, according to the council's statement, the team could not bo selected in fairness to Otago and Canterbury ■olayers until its conclusion.
