Freezing Works Dispute

CONCERN AT TAURANGA TAUEANGA, Feb. 2. The recent freezing works dispute was discussed at a meeting of the Tauranga branch of the Farmers’ Union Mr E. W. Kean presided over an attendance of 60 members.

Mr C. S. Moffat, referring to the dispute, said the additional wage was a tax on farmers. The farmers should not be taxed to keep the rest of the community. Costs had risen considerably since tho guaranteed price was fixed. Every cost that was put ou the community went back to the farmers. A motion was adopted that the secretary write to the Tauranga Co-operative Dairy Association asking for details of the increase in costs from the beginning of this season. Tho meeting decided to submit a series of questions to Mr C. H. Burnett, M.P. for Tauranga, regarding the attitude of the Government in the settlement of the freezing works dispute, farming costs, the rehabilitation of the farmer, and other matters.
