Produce at Pukekohe
PUKEKOHE, Feb. 2. The market for Pukekoho potatoes has firmed during the past week and current prices to-day were 6s and 6s 3d a cwt. f.o.r. Pukekohe. This is an increase of Is on last Alonday’s value. With tho advance of the season, supplies are shortening, while the demand is quickening. Export business in onions has resulted in a parcel from Pukekohe being shipped last week. This has steadied tho market at 9s 6d a cwt. The carry-over for the winter will be much less than usual, and, although the price is likely to recede in competition with Southerns, which aro now being marketed, a firming tendency is expected again later. Pickling onions have eased 2s 6d a cwt. in value during the past week, to-day’s quotation being 11s. The tomato crops have suffered from the wet weather and supplies are shorter than had been anticipated. To-day’s value is 4s 9d an 181 b. case. Good Savoy cabbages sell at 6s 6d a large sack, and other cabbages at ss; carrots, 7s a sugar bag; beetroot, 5s a bag, rhubarb, 3s 6d a dozen bundles; marrows, 4s a dozen; cucumbers, 2s 6d a dozen; pumpkins, 10s 6d cwt.; and garlic, 5s per lb. .
