Big Entry of Ewes at Stortford STORE SHEEP MARKET. (Special to “Times.”) HASTINGS, Last Night. As a preliminary to tho «we lan on Friday there was quite a large offering of breeding ewes at Stortford Lodge to-day. In the offering of 10, 000 store sheep lambs were not on offer in such large numbers, but thei* scarcity was comi»ensated by the much larger entries ot ewes and fat and forward wethers.
All useful lines of lambs again met wonderfully buoyant market m wtkb a large entry of fat and forward b'ackfaced lambs offered on account of Mr P. Parsons, Wharerangi, reached lo 23/7, setting a new high level m prices pence better than the top price at Waipukurau yesterday. Shorn ewe lamb* offered on account of Mr T. May m ado 28/3, and the top line of shorn wether lambs made 19/-. The outstanding draft of breeding ewes was on account of Mr May, and which consisted of pens of all ages. These all made gpod selling, thd ewes being in good order.
Most of the entries of ewes wero sound-mouthed and. older, the latter being chiefly fattening propositions. Well-mouthed lines met with a good inquiry, but others were slower of sale. The top lines of fat and forward wethers made to 26/-, which on the basis of quality made particularly good selling. Realisations were made as under:—
On account of Mr T. May, Ocean Beach, 230 well-framed early-shorn four-year-old breeding ewes, in splendid store condition, realised 33/7. An entry of 196 Patolca-bred fairly well-mouthed ewes, some being indifferent, made 21/3. These ewes wero roomy and carrying a good slipe. On account of Mr J. Alexander, Pulcetapu, 230 six-year-old eyes with failing mouths brought 19/7. On account of Mr J. May, 324 wellframed roomy five-year-old ewes splendidly mouthed and in excellent* condition, sold at 29/-.
On account of Mr E D. Holt, Petane, 135 well-framed six-year-old ewes, quite fair mouthed, being a useful lino off Hill country, brought 20/9. An entry of 164 large-framed six-year-old ewes, fair to good mouthed, being in good order and condition, brought 23/8.
In from Pukehou, 124 aged ewes, a fattening proposition only, made 18/-. On account of Mr T. May, 133 i-tooth to five-year-old ewes, early shorn and carrying a good slipe, splendidly mouthed and in very good ardor, gold at 33/9.
An entry of 121 five-year-old ewes, guaranteed sound mouthed, off hard country, in good condition and carrying a gool slipe, made 26/3.
On account of Mr M. Brodie, Rissington, 143 five-year-old ewes, containing a few of younger sheep, splendid mouthed and in good breeding order, brought 28/-.
An entry of T6O five-year-old, rather tow in the mouth, in medium order and lipped, brought 22/10. On account of Mr H. Hassall, 175 small-grown woolly white-faced lambs, in light condition, made 16/1. On account of Mr B. L. Chambers,' Potutu, 120 well-framed fat and for ward wethers showing a touch of Byeland and in very good order, mado 25/7. On account of Mr T. May, 290 nicelygrown early-shorn white-faced ewe Jambs, in splendid order, having been well done, realised 28/7. **
In from Waikare, 95 woolly whitefaced wether lambs carrying quite a lot of condition made 20/9.
On account of Mr W. T. Burt, Omakere, 100 fairly-grown forward blackfaced lambs brought 20/9.
Oil account of Mr P. Parsons, Puketapu, 440 well-grown fat and forward black-faced lambs in excellent order topped the market at 23/7 for 200, tho remainder being passed at 22/6. An entry of 150 woolly mediumgrown ewe lambs brought 25/-. From Waikare, an entry of forward wether® in fair order was passed 23/10.
From the Waikare district, 104 four and five-year-old well-mouthed ewes in light condition, very empty in appearance due to road and rail travel, Drought 26/3.
From the same district 392 two-tooth to five-year-old ewes, very woll mouthed and iu similar empty condition to tho previous entry, realised 26/3.
An entry of 152 small to mediumgrown woolly white-faced lambs in fair order was passed at IS/3. From Kaiwaka, 76 woolly white-faced well-grown wether lamb's in medium condition brought 19/7.
On account of Mr W. T. Watson, Patangata, 144 early-shorn large-framed fat and forward wethers in very good order made 26/-.
On account of the same vendor, 162 carly-ehorn younger wethers, being two and. four-toothed and in good order brought 25/5. In from Otam&uri, an entry of five and six-year-old ewes carrying a good slipe brought 22/6. On account of Mrs. IC. Edgecombe, Waimarama, 20 six-year-old ewes, poor mouthed but carrying good store condition, brought 20/6. On account of Mr T. May, 100 4,6, and 8-tooth ewes, a little low in condition, brought 34/-.
On account of of Mr T. F. Lincoln. Patangata, 80 extra well woolled and nicely-grown ewe lambs in good order made 29/6. On account of Mr B. Williams, 276 &arJy-shorn well-grown white-faced lambs, in splendid order, brought 19/-.
