Successful Screen Plays By Girl Scenario Writer

Miss Betty Meehan, a former Zicgfeld Follies girl, now one of .tho highestpaid scenario writers in Hollywood, recently arrived in London to. see Mr James Barries’ new play, ‘‘The Boy David."

"Sir James was responsible for my transformation,” Miss Meehan said. On tho table was a signed copy of his "Kiss for Cinderella," which she carries as a mascot.

Is was only one of the ladies of thf chorus in the screen version of this beautiful play, Miss Meehan explained, and I thought the script falsified the ending. Bo keenly did I feel on the subject that I cabled Bir James about it. The result was that they changed the script, and I had dozens of offers to becomo a scenario writer.

Miss Meehan was responsible for tho script of "Beau Geste," one of the biggest box-office "draws’* in cinema history. Her latest screen play, "The Magnificent Obsession," is listed among the "goldmine" features in the current American box-office digest. Bhe is in the “top flight” of tho 900 Hollywood “scribblers," but is too modest to mention actual figures. Writers are a better-paid class than producers at Hollywood, Miss Meehan said. The minimum weekly fee for writers is now £l5O and the maximum £6OO. • , ■
