Coming-of-age Dance At “Kaingara,” Feilding

On Friday evening a dance arranged by Misses Joan Dermcr, Phillipa Broad and Norah Beattie was given Miss Elaine Bailey at “Kaingara” her homo in Kimbolton road.

Tho occasion was her 21st birthday and the numerous friends from within

a very wide area arrived to celebrate it with her and make the evening one which she would always retain a happy memory of. Quantities of beautiful flowers had been sent by friends for tRo decorations which wero most delightully carried out by Mrs C. B. C. Evans. For tho drawing-room and dining-room she chose a variety of blooms toning from palest pink to deep carnation red using for tho hall flame flowers and bronze foliage. Supper was served on long tables in the dining-room and adjacent veirandah and the flowers and trailing asparagus fern upon them were lightly arranged in low crystal bowls at either side of one of higher size. The decoration of the ball-room was effected by Miss Phillipa Broad with the assistance of Messrs Allan Palairet and lan Riley and consisted of a great canopy of streamers in colours similar to tho flowers used in the house. An alcove for the musicians at one end of the room was adorned with native foliage and bamboo as also was the entrance aud the corners of the room. The finishing touches were given by Mrs C. V. Newton Broad who masses of lovely gladioli and hydrangeas to tone with the evening’s colour scheme achieved most charming results. Before supper Mr W. A. Sandilands in a very amusing speech proposed the toast of Miss Elaine Bailey, his niece and god-daughter, and was then called upon to mako her a very beautiful presentation from her friends. Mr W. A. Bailey afterwards announced, tho engagement of his son Terry, to Miss Edith Little, of Marton, and. proposed their toast whereupon Mr Allan Palraict proposed the toast of Mr and Mrs Bailey. All three toasts wero drunk with musical honours and were responded to in turn by Miss Bailey, her brother and father. The birthday cake was made and very artistically decorated by Miss Edith Little. It was half-past two before goodbyes wero said aud the guests set out on the homeward journeys. Miss Phillipa Broad wore a graceful Grecian frock of cremo moire taffeta finished with shirring, aud Miss Joan Dernier was in a delightful little bouffant frock of pale silvery green checked organdie, Miss Norah Beattie in a pretty creation of soft pink crope silk with flowing shoulder draperies and Miss Elaino Bailey wore a model robo of shell pink lace over taffeta, a sash of old rose satin and shoulder spray of flowers in tho two shades.
