Women’s Institute

MAKURI MEETING. The Makuri Women’s Instituto hold a meeting on January 27 iu glorious summer weather in the garden of the president (Mrs. C. Jennings), who welcomed her guests. Mrs. H. Paterson was present and gave a delightful talk on gardens sbo had visited while abroad, which was much appreciated by those present. Mrs. Menken proposed a voto of thanks to Mrs. Paterson for her pleasant talk. Little Dorothy Moore then presented tho guest of honour with a posy made by Mrs. P. Dransfield. The motto for the afternoon was: “Flowers in the garden, meat in the hall, a bin of wine, a spice of wit, a house with lawn surrounding it" (R. L. Stevenson). Votes ct thanks were passed to Mr. Taylor for distributing Christmas presents to tho children, and to Messrs. O ’Stkye and Yeoman for taking the Christmas box to Porirua. It was decided to have the next meeting on February 10. The competition is to be for the heaviest hen’s egg. Tho nominations for the new committee will be held at the next meeting, and Mrs. Crewe will give a travel talk. Mrs. Gregorie won tho competition for the best bloom of hydrangeas and begonias. The croquet competition was won by Mrs. R. A. Wilson. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Holland, Rhodes, T. C. Moore and Meaeham.
