Shannon
From Our Own Correspondent The engagement is announced of Enda Fortescue, youngest daughter of Air and Mrs. G. E. Cotter ell, Rongotai, Wellington, and at one time of Kingston road, Shannon, to Clement, only son of Air H. H. Van de Velde, “Neath,” Manly, Sydney. At the fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council on Tuesday last, it was decided, on the motion of Mr R. E. Downs, seconded by Air J. Curran jnr., that Saturday be the statutory halfholiday for Shannon. An amendment to the effect that Wednesday bo retained as the half-holiday, was moved by Mr T. C. Thwaites, but lapsed for want of a seconder. Mrs Edgington is a Wellington visitor to Shannon, and is the guest of Mrs MteGuckin. Airs J. Hallain, Stout street, is visiting Wanganui. Air and Mrs Roe, and Aiiss Ngaire Roe, Hastings, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs Aitchison, have returned home. Mr and Mrs A. Morgan leave eorly next week for Hamilton. They carry with them the best wishes of their many friends. Jocelyn Bass, formerly of Shannon, and now resident in Palmerston North, and Douglas Aitchison, and Bernard Macedo, have been successful in passing the matriculation examination.
