Nightwatchman Chases Two Men

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY AT WAIPUKURAI (•Special to “Times") HASTINGS, Last Night. An attempt to break into Roach's building in Ruataniwha street, Waipukurau, at 2 o 'clock on Tuesday morning was frustrated by tho appearance of tho nightwatchman on his round. Two men or youths were concerned in the attempt, one being on the watch. As soon as the nightwatchman appeared, both the men ran away up the hill at the back of the buildings and made good their escape. A tyre lever which had obviously been used in an attempt to force the door was left on the ground. Several distinct marks made by the lever are to be seen on the door and jamb but except for these marks in tho wood, the door is undamaged. The police are investigating.
