Manawatu Speedway

MONSTER GALA PROGRAMME. On Wednesday next, what promises to be the greatest night’s entertainment ever offered to tho public of this district will be staged at the local speedway. The programme comprises 25 events, all of which are guaranteed to give a thrill to the onlookers. In view of the probable early departure of the American riders to Australia, this will be the last chance to see their daring and spectacular riding and stunting. Events comprise 13 straight-out motorcycling speed races in which the successful team, which includes the Yanks, will compete against the four best riders from the Christchurch speedway. There are two four laps midget car races of three cars each, with a final of six laps in which the four fastest midgets will compete. The events alone will be worth going to see. Owing to the fact that Putt Mossman has not been able, through various causes, to successfully show his wonderful versatility at the local speedway, he is giving as a special support to the speedway programme, a series of his best stunting events. These will include tho following items:—Juggling three eggs whilst standing on a motor-cycle in action, climbing over a ladder whilst circling the track, Cossack-riding a speedway motor over a midget racing car, crashing through a board wall on motor-cycle, blindfold jump over Pee Wee the Clown. In addition to these events a masked local girl, who does not want the name known as she does not seek publicity, will attempt a triple riding stunt with Putt and his sister Dessie. She is doing it to get a thrill and you have seen her in Palmerston North during the past few years, but you’ll never guess her name. Putt Mossman will also give an exhibition of tumbling and high kicking at the starting line and, in proof of his power, he offers five pounds to any person who can hold a broom in a horizontal position higher than he can kick, tho holder to be in a standing position. In all it is a programme of speed events fully up to, if not better than, any yet staged, with midget car racing and stunting as an added attraction. Do not miss this one!
