TORRENTIAL RAINS INTERFERES WITH MADRID OFFENSIVE

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright. LONDON, January 27. The Telegraph’s Toledo correspondent says that all chances of a new offensive against Madrid have gone. Owing to torrential rains, the rivers have become flooded and military operations are rapidly becoming impossible. General Franco’s line of communications are also endangered, owing to the sweeping away of a vital bridge. The Guadarrama river is now unerossable. A Santander message says that the insurgent cruiser Espanda daringly seized a Government coaster at the entrance to the Santander harbour, despite bombing from a Government ’plane.
