r - —— SODIUM CHLORATE SHORTAGE. The following reply from tho Dominion Secretary of the New Zealand Farmers * Union in connection with the shortage of sodium chlorate has been forwarded to the local branch of the Farmers' Union by the Wairarapa Provincial Secretary (Mr Watson). “In the matter of your inquiry re shortage of sodium chlorate, the Agricultural Department have reported to us that the Moreton Proprietary Coy., have advised them they have no supplies of “Altacide" in Wellington, but they have four tons in Auckland. I understand that tho Department has advised you accordingly. A shipment will, however, bo arriving in Wellington this month. “As regards sodium chlorate—7s tons will be arriving at the end of January, 25 tons in February and 100 tons in March. All the January and February shipments have been sold, but GO tons of tho March shipments are at present unsold. Most of the quantities sold have been purchased by County Councils. The Department, however, stated that a limited supply of either sodium chlorate or “Altacide" may be obtained from the National Dairy Association. •‘The shortage at this time of the year, the officers of tho Department say, is due to the lateness of the season and the stocks being sold out in the ordinary course of business, as well as to the greater activities of tho County Councils in the matter of ragwort control."
