Casein Factory a Dairy Factory
I MAGISTRATE'S INTERESTING DECISION Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Jan. 28. An interesting point was raised in I the Court to-day in a case in which Inspector McGregor, of the Labour Department, proceeded against the New Zealand Casein Co., for employing two workers more than 40 hours per week and failing to pay overtime rates. Inspector McGregor contended that the casein factory at Aramoho, where casein is manufactured, was not a dairy factory under the regulations. Mr. J. F. B. Stevenson, Wellington, contended that a casein factory was a dairy factory and dairy produce meant any other product of milk or cream and casein was just as much a product of a dairy factory as butter or cream. The company was registered under the dairy division as a factory where dairy produce was manufactured. Mr. J. 11. Salmon, S.M., upheld the point and said it was clear that the factory was registered under the Dairy Act and dairy produce included any other product of milk. The information was dismissed.
