President Rebukes Automobile Head
“A VERY UNFORTUNATE DECISION.” United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copy righ t. Received Wednesday, 8.50 p.m. WASHINGTON, Jan. 27. President Roosevelt rebuked Mr. Sloan (president of General Motorsj for his refusal to attend the Perkins conference when told that it was comprised of Government officials, business and labour leaders. “I am not oniy disappointed at the refusal of Mr. Sloan but regard it as a very unfortunate decision on his part.” Tho Labour Secretary, Miss Perkins, also assailed Mr. Sloan: “An episode like this must make it clear to the American people why the workers hive lost confidence in General Motors Corporation.” At Flint 7000 non-union workers at a mass meeting voiced their indignation against tho unions and asked Governor Murphy to guarantee protection to those returning to the strike-torn plants.
