Pacific Shipping Subsidies
OWNERS WANT TO KNOW WHEN.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Wednesday, 9.50 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 27. The Daily Mail says the announcement of the Pacific shipping subsidy is welcomed in shipping circles but it has not entirely allayed the anxiety. Shipowners want to know when tho grant will be given and what the terms will be.
A company official said it would take at least two years to build the two new liners required for the Pacific. The Canadian-Australian Company cannot be expected to lose money at the present rate. It is even suggested that the matter may not be settled until tha meeting of the Imperial Conference. Such procrastination may lead to the disappearance of British liners from the Pacific.
