Apiti
From Our Owu Correspondent Those who sold their wool at last Wellington wool sale have now received their wool cheques and this is tho time of tho year when the sheep-farmer is more readily disposed to purchase those extras for the farm and the household that he anticipates “if the wool brings a decent price.'' Tho continued showery weather of recent weeks has been responsible for blight in some of the local potato crops. Usually at this time of tho year the grass on the roadsides has been well devoured by stock, but this year, however, it is very noticeable, especially when looking over tho township from Kidgo road, that the tall growth oi grass now seeding on every road offers a decided contract to many of the welleaten paddocks. One farmer who resides a few miles away from Apiti had a paddock of hay which was turned no less than fivo times in an endeavour to get it ready for stacking. As tho weather did not improve, tho farmer was reluctantly compelled to tip tho'ruined crop over a bank. Personal. Rev. D. Martin and Mrs Martin, of Feilding, and Miss A. Martin, of Stratford, have been the guests of Mr and Mrs S. J. Martin, Marton Block. Miss Dora Kraiger has returned home after spending a week’s holiday with Mrs *Jack Cavvood, Norsewood road. Mrs J. H. Cowan and her three .children are at present holidaying in Taradale, Hawke’s Bay. Miss Margaret Paterson, although still confined to bed is, her friends will be pleased to hear, now making satisfactory progress. Mrs W. Luffman and family are Palmerston North visitors staying with Mrs D. Paterson. Mrs Duncan, senr., who for the past ten weeks has been visiting her family in Whatatutu and Gisborne, is shortly returning to Apiti, accompanied by Mr and Mis A. F. Fitzgerald.
